Everyone has heard of the phrase, "Time is money." However, that notion is WRONG. In fact, money is time! You can always get more money but you can never get more time. To understand why time is so valuable, you must understand the characteristics of time. Time is finite -- It's the same for everyone -- No one has more time than anyone else in a twenty-four hour day, unless you've tapped into some quantum mechanic sorcery in your biogenetic makeup. Thus, time is a non-renewable resource that can't be replaced, saved or made up. So how much is twenty-four hours worth to you? We all know that we should work hard, but it's entirely possible that you're working too hard because you're spending your time inefficiently. Smart time management helps you get the right things done as you juggle a plethora of opportunity costs. So here are some suggested working habits that might save you time in the long run and motivate you: Crazy as it might sound, focus on the most difficult tasks FIRST. Save the easier, less mentally taxing and less pressing duties for LAST in the day. Finally, evaluate the tasks by asking yourself, "How is this helping me achieve my goals?" Prioritize with your employer on which tasks are most important and urgent. Get to know your own limitations in what you could realistically deliver. If your employer adds something urgent onto your schedule for the day, be sure to drop something that is less urgent. If you are an employer, prioritize with your employees in the way you delegate workflow. Remember that while working on the more difficult tasks first might sound silly in comparison to knocking out the easier tasks, completing the easier tasks first might drain all of a person's daily allowance of their most productive energy. Breaking down a difficult task into smaller chunks and working uninterrupted if possible is crucial. Turn off your smartphone and log off of your social media and FOCUS. With each completed metric being met, your momentum will build. When you finally get to the easier tasks, you will feel as though you're completing them with your eyes closed. Thus, you will end your day with a sense of accomplishment which sets you up for the next day. No one wants to feel like they've failed, so set yourself and your employees up for success in the way you prioritize work. Work smarter.
